Poole, Deryck
My Bio
Deryck is a former Infantry Marine, and has over 18 years experience with firearms and as a trainer, both in the military and private sectors. While serving in the Marines Deryck served as a Rifleman, Fireteam Leader, Squad Leader, and Range Control Safety NCO.
Throughout his enlistment, Deryck conducted training as required for his billet, but it was during his time as a Range Control Safety NCO where he found his love for being a trainer. It was during this time where he would conduct training for non-combat MOS Marines in proper operation and deployment of crew served weapons, rifle qualification coach, and fieldcraft.
Deryck is a Certified Combat Focus Shooting and Combat Focus Carbine Instructor, Glock Certified Armorer, and holds multiple NRA Instructor Certifications.
Why I teach Combat Focus Shooting...
It is a program that teaches principals, concepts, and techniques that are equally applicable to both the armed professional and the legally armed citizen.
The program has the highest integrity! Whether you’re being taught by Rob, myself, or any of the other talented instructors you will be taught the same principles and concepts in the utmost professional manner. This consistency is because the title of CFS Certified Instructor is one earned through hard work and study (there is only a 50% certification rate). Once certified, it requires even more hard work and continued study to maintain the certification and “active” status. I would highly recommend any active CFS instructor and encourage students to take classes with different instructors whenever possible.
Students are taught the principles, concepts, techniques, and drills which they can study further and practice on their own to improve their individual competency. If desired or training resources aren’t available to the student, the CFS course can be repeated over and over without becoming “stale”. Repeating the course provides the student the opportunity to further develop skills and evaluate their individual progress. This is unlike other “schools” where they sell the student into a never ending chain of beginner, intermediate, advanced, point shooting, and so on.
I have been a student in the “it’s SOP”, “fun with guns” and “trust me I’m a professional” classes and this is a completely different kind of program. It is backed by solid research into what happens during a Dynamic Critical Incident . It is a program that encourages student to ask the “why” questions. The student “why” questions are always answered in the same way the program is explained, using physics, anatomy, physiology, neurology, psychology and empirical evidence.
I am teaching students skills that will they will need during a life and death situation. It is an honor and a privilege to be entrusted with that task so I believe that it is my responsibility to provide the most accurate information available. I believe the Combat Focus Shooting program contains that information.
