The thing I like most about CFS is that it doesn't try to fight nature. There are certain realities about how fights go down and how our bodies react to a lethal threat, and Combat Focus shooting acknowledges them. We study how attacks actually happen, how our bodies have evolved natural reactions to deal with threats, and from that combination we learn the best techniques and tactics to survive.

CFS is all about context - the context of the violent ambush attack. Other schools teach from the context of a shooting game or a military operation, but CFS teaches in the context of the kinds of attacks that you and I face on the street. Everything in the curriculum is aimed at surviving the brutal criminal attack, because what is efficient in the context of a target match or in a SWAT raid is not necessarily efficient in the face of a predatory ambush. We don't often talk about evolution in defensive training, but it's one area where CFS is very different. We're always learning more about how fights actually happen, how criminals act, how bullets do their job, and how the mind and body respond to lethal threats.
