My Bio

Mike is a Colorado native, currently residing in Montrose Colorado.  After High school Mike spent 8 years as a Journeyman Lineman for a small Colorado electric co-op.  In the early 90’s, he returned to college graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering degree.  For the past 20 years he has worked in the communications and electronic industry.  Mike has been a hunter and handgun enthusiast most of his life.  In the last 8 years he has had the opportunity to train with some law enforcement and military firearms instructors as well as attending some well-known firearms training centers in the US.  Mike is active in 3 local shooting clubs, a certified IDPA Safety Officer, and a certified Combat Focus Shooting Instructor.

Why I teach Combat Focus Shooting...

When I took my concealed carry class I realized that the level of training and proficiency required to obtain a permit was severely lacking.  I didn’t want to be one of those who “thought” I knew how to handle a pistol.  I started taking training from all the sources I could find, law enforcement, military and commercial.  I felt like I was on the right track.  Then I met John Brown when I joined his Cross-Fit gym in Montrose.  Because of his back-ground, I asked him if he would help me further augment my training and understanding.  I took my first CFS class from John in December 2010.  I walked away from that 1-day course better equipped than all the other training I had taken combined.  I read Rob’s book and talked with John about the CFS program and organization.  It was at this point I decided to take the Instructor Development class in order to teach this program.  I have since completed the Advanced Pistol Handling and Carbine classes.

I had taught enough classes and had been around enough “gun owners” to realize that the level of understanding, safety and proficiency many possessed was inadequate and sometimes even out-right scary.  I firmly believe and stand on our Second Amendment Rights to “keep and bear arms”.  However, I also believe that it is incumbent upon each of us to invest our time, effort and energy to become safe and proficient in their use.  This program is “the pinnacle” of defensive weapons training and is, hands down, the best and most cost effective program available.

That is why I teach Combat Focus Shooting.
